Aberavon Quins 18 Maesteg Quins 12

In an absorbing contest, Aberavon Quins ran out worthy winners largely through some dazzling back play produced in the second half. The home side started brightly gaining possession from their own kick off. Good forward play took play close to the line after a good run from winger Colarusso. A penalty goal from Sheppard eased his side in front before for the visitors pack got into their stride. Fly half Bradley kicked for position accurately and Skipper Steve Williams was driven over the line from a maul for a try that went unconverted.

Aberavon Quins were forced to defend for long periods as the visitors were in command of scrum and line out leaving the home backs starved of possession. It was all hands to the pump as to a man every man all stood up to be counted in an amazingly defiant defence.

With just a two points advantage in the second half the visitors decided to give their backs the opportunity to breach the home defence but by doing so gave away their advantage.

Dazzling running from centres, Ryan and Gareth Pugh with great support from full back Cooksley and winger Colarusso opened up the game and the visitors appeared leaden footed. The home pack also revelled in the open play and Saker, Bowen and Beynon figured well. Scrum half Nathan Flynn also took advantage of space offered  him and was a constant threat. Sheppard restored the lead with a penalty. A slight forward pass denied a score for Colarusso after eye catching work from Flynn, Cooksley and Ryan Pugh. The home side were not to be denied as No.8 O'Callaghan combined with Flynn to move the ball along the line to Jordan Condon and the young winger ran strongly to score a corner try.  Ryan Pugh produced a defence splitting run and great support play saw the ball moved quickly across the field and Condon plucked a long pass off his toes and ran strongly to beat the cover to score a spectacular corner try. Sheppard converted.

With time running out the visitors reverted to their original style and their pack found the energy to drive up field and a close scrum resulted in a penalty try which Bradley converted. Although Maesteg Quins hammered at the home line in injury time the redoubtable home defence held for the victory that kept them on top of the division one west central
