Aberavon Quins 26 Pencoed35 The game started brightly with the Quins pack in good form. Good drives from Bowen and Burgess, well supported by smart running from Handford kept the home side deep in Pencoed territory. The Quins were stunned when they spilled the ball in the Pencoed 22 and Sion Clarke scorched along the touchline to score a spectacular try. Pencoed called for passive scrums which has been their way all season. This took away the Quins advantage and Pencoed prospered. Quins took the lead just before half time when Brennan crossed in the corner after stirring work from the forwards. Roberts converted from the touchline. Two quick tries involving smart inter passing and a penalty and conversion from Rhys Clarke put Pencoed in command. The Quins stuck to the task and MachLachlan put in some typical runs and as a result of some strong mauling James Lewis forced his way over. Roberts converted but from the kick off Morgan Jones skipped through the Quins defence to score. With time running out MacLachlan forced his way over and a sparkling run from Kennerley brought him a deserved score converted by Roberts.  The defeat had no bearing on the situation in the Plate as the Quins had already qualified.   The powers that be must look into the passive scrums problem as more and more clubs use it as a ploy and the removal of a player does not do enough to compensate the loss of scrum advantage.
