Aberavon Quins v Maesteg Celtic

Maesteg Celtic 20 Aberavon Quins 59

The Quins remain top of division 2 west central after a spectacular nine try win at Maesteg.

It was fifteen man rugby at it's best with backs and forwards displaying a remarkable exhibition of handling and running.

Mercurial scrum half Jacob Flynn produced some early runs and crossed for the first try from a smartly taken penalty, Marc Sheppard converted

Matthew Harris pegged the Quins back with a penalty before a combined threequarter move took play close to the Celtic line.

Powerful hooker Luke Davies then bulldozed his way over for a try after great work by skipper Craig Cox. Sheppard converted. Davies repeated the dose minutes later with his second touchdown.

Flynn then combined with Conor O'Callaghan to set up a counter attack from Quins territory and winger Marcus David finished in style for Sheppard to convert from a wide angle.

Complete forward domination kept the Quins on top with props Dan Morgan and Mike Burgess in great form. Beynon and Bowen ensured a regular supply of line out ball and tireless flanker Adam Dawe crossed beneath the posts after another combined move swept away the Celtic defenders. Sheppard converted and also improved a try from centre Jack Dacey to make it 40-3 at half time.

Celtic never gave up and to their credit raised their game and took play to the visitors early in the second half and were rewarded with a try from No8 Lee Arthur.

The Quins hit back and Callum Beynon did well to charge down an attempted clearance kick and Dan Morgan gleefully touched down.

No 8 O'Callaghan crowned an impressive performance with a try and Ryan Pugh converted replacement lock Jon Thomas's late try.

Technical offences reduced the Quins to thirteen men in the closing minutes and Celtic added tries from Neil Arthur and Jonathan Davies one of which Harris converted.

With at least five teams in the race for promotion the Quins have their last home game vs Cwmllynfell and visits to Taibach and Penlan to complete their season.
