Pencoed 26 Aberavon Quins 29 The Game started at a brisk pace and Pencoed threatened early on but the Quins defence held firm but could not prevent falling behind to two Rhys Clark penalty goals. The game progressed with the Quins pack dominating the scrummages although the line out was not a success. Some strong play from Robbie Morgan and Con O’Callaghan posed problems for the home side that clung to their lead to almost half time. Matthew Washbourne continues to impress at lock and his strong burst aided by Scott Roberts and Jack Dacey was finished by smart work from Lewis Cronin to put O’Callaghan in for a try converted by Roberts. Replacement Jack Davies entered the struggle and he made a great improvement to the line out. A powerful run from centre Callum Handford resulted in a second score for O’Callaghan. Clark narrowed the Quins lead with a well struck penalty and he showed great skills in gathering loose kicks and counter attacking. The Quins eight were dominating with Tyler Hopkins, Dale Bowen and Dan Morgan performing well. However Pencoed withdrew a prop and passive scrums were called negating the huge Quins advantage. Pencoed, then against the run of play, engineered a remarkable try from almost their own line, Clark converted for a home lead. Washbourne and Dan Morgan figured well in a move that brought a try for flanker James Lewis Roberts converted for a three point lead but Clark levelled the scores at 19 all with another penalty shot. O’Callaghan made a strong burst and when held up Jack Dacey was on hand to score. Roberts converted. Pencoed were not giving in and a good kick allied to an awkward bounce created a try and Clark converted to make it 26 all and it was left for Roberts to secure the bonus point win with a penalty goal.
