Quins 45 Severn Sisters 8

Playing against a very strong wind the Quins swept to the attack from the off mainly through the tearaway back row trio of Matt Saker, Jake Price and Dylan Maclachlan. The Quins back three were under pressure from high kicks in the swirling wind and a few slip ups gave attacking positions to the visitors. A rash of penalties took play close to the Quins line and a well organised maul put the visitors ahead with a try and the Quins were 5 points down but were in control for most of the half.

The tight forwards also contributed much with Dale Bowen and Tyler Hopkins continually crashing through would be tacklers. Props James Whitelegge and Dan Helson were on top in the scrums and Seven were totally outplayed in that department. It was not all about the forwards as fly half Lewis Cronin controlled things well on the end of a smooth service from Rhys Edmunds. Scott Roberts put in some strong runs and Callum Handford continued his recent good form. Towards the end of the half the strong running by the Quins paid off when Maclachlan crashed over after a storming run by Hopkins, Roberts converted. Cronin made a great break and speedy Kieran Brennan touched down Roberts mastered the wind with great conversion.

As the strength of the wind lessened Seven Sisters scored first in the second half with a penalty goal but from then on they were forced onto the defence as the Quins launched wave after wave of attack Maclachlan put in a 5 star performance as he flattened the opposition with spectacular running. The Quins forward strength was displayed as at various times Josh Pugh, Matthew Washbourne, Liam Oates and the superb James Lewis entered the fray. Together with lock Jack Davies, Lewis appeared to be covering all the field at once and the future of the Quins augurs well with these two young men. Hopkins crowned a great performance with a try soon followed by skipper Bowen diving over from a line out, Roberts converted and also improved the next score by Handford. James Lewis grabbed a try and it was the half backs who completed the scoring when Edmunds converted a Cronin try.
