Quins RFC 39-25 Resolven RFC

Aberavon Quins 39 Resolven 25
In a thoroughly entertaining game the Quins ran out winners but were fought every inch of the way
and victory was not secured unl the closing minutes. Quins started strongly and some strong
running from Centres Ryan Pugh and Cronin gave Resolven problems. Quins took the lead when a
perfectly organised maul following a line out take by Beynon saw Josh Pugh force his way over for a
&ve point lead, Resolven hit back with threatening counter a(acks but the home defence stood &rm.
Fly half Cooksley was a controlling in*uence in a(ack and defence with the reless back row trio of
Jon Thomas, MacLachlan and Rowlands mowing down would be a(ackers. A great break by scrum
half Kennerley should have brought a score but a lack of support allowed Resolven to clear. Another
lineout in the visitors 22 saw a copycat maul and Bowen dived over to make the lead ten points.
When a promising a(ack by the Quins foundered in Resolven territory the visitors responded with a
devastang bout of handling and running for full back Nathan Davies to score. Winger Rhys Edmunds
put in some strong runs and was close to breaking down the visitors’ defence. Quins were shocked
when another sweeping counter a(ack resulng in a try for Kyle Jones, Healey converted to put
Resolven two points up. The Quins pack rampaged to the a(ack and further strong mauling put
hooker Hopkins over with Broom’s conversion restoring the home lead. Resolven responded when a
sharply taken tapped penalty gained a score for Anthony Lee making it 19-17 to the visitors at half
me.
The Quins quickly regained the lead in the second half when the forwards again had a strangle hold
on a maul for Bowen to score his second. Broom converted. Healey hit back with two penales to
regain the lead. Forwards Cox and Short came on as replacements and contributed some big hits and
strong runs, Douglas and Presco( joined the threequarters and ran strongly. Tries from Lewis Cronin
and Ryan Pugh sealed a third bonus point victory out of three to maintain the Quins posion at the
top of the division.
