Green Stars 10 Aberavon Quins 17

Another outstanding performance from the Quins pack allied to a stern defence won the day for the visitors in a very entertaining match.

The Quins hit the ground running with their forwards exerting great pressure on the home defence and a try appeared to be on the cards in the opening ten minutes as skipper Craig Cox and the abrasive Glen Williams tore into their opponents. The Quins were stunned however when deep in defence No8 Elliot Jones picked up from a retreating scrum and superb handling from the sharp Stars backs resulting in a memorable try for scrum half and captain Nathan Flynn that went unconverted.

The Quins eight resumed their strangle hold on the home pack and after several collapsed scrums close to the line a penalty try was inevitably awarded. Ryan Pugh converted to put his  side in front.  The Quins line out went well with Dale Bowen and Lloyd Hayden supplying a stream of possession. Hooker Luke Davies put in his usual strong bursts and props Dan Morgan & Tom James showed there was more to their game than scrummaging with great work in the loose. Scrum Half Marcus David was in outstanding form and whilst the forwards wrestled it out close to the line he picked up and hopped over prone bodies to score. Pugh mastered the tricky wind with a good conversion. The Quins had a strong bench and the was no letting up as experienced props Richard Diaz and Jon Bamsey joined the fray in the second half. Liam Oates replaced the injured Hayden and took a lions share of line out ball. Fly half Howard Thomas orchestrated the threequarters well and strong runs came from Kris Corbisiero and Lloyd Allen and back row men Craig Cox and Adam Dawe. Pugh increased the Quins lead with a penalty.

The Stars never caved in and late on their backs showed what they could have done with better supply of ball with some clever running from Foard Cookseley.

It was a clever chip by Cookesley that led to a try for Dan Davies. Good late pressure came from the Stars but the Quins defended with purpose  to gain the spoils.
