Aberavon Quins 16 Ystalyfera 15

It was to their credit that both teams agreed to play although the pitch was almost under water.  Marc Sheppard  eased the Quins in front with a straight penalty which was copied by Gareth James for the visitors. Fly half James was in great form for Ystalyfera and kicked superbly out of hand and landed two more penalties to put his side into a deserved lead. Quins pivot Sheppard was also in good form but it was mostly a defensive effort for the Quins as early on the visitors held the whip hand up front. Beynon, Bowen and Oates did well in  the line out and contributed greatly in the loose. There was a great struggle at No.8 with rival skippers Craig Cox and Steffan James battling to a standstill but the front row colours went Ystalyfera's way

The handling by both sides in the soaking conditions bordered on the miraculous and winger Steve Colarusso and full back Ryan Pugh were unshakeable for the Quins under the high ball.

The Quins applied more pressure in the second half good kicks from O'Callaghan and Sheppard paid dividends when full back Castle called a mark yards from his try line and incredibly opened up play but pressure from  tireless  flanker Adam Dawe and centre James Peploe-Williams forced an attempted looped pass which was plucked out of the air by centre Jack Dacey who celebrated his 21st birthday with a try. Sheppard converted to put his side in front. The visitors swept back to the attack but although the Quins defended well it was James who regained the lead with his fourth penalty. Sheppard then restored the Quins lead with a great penalty which looked to have settled matters but James landed his fifth goal and it was a very nervy crowd that watched in injury time as Sheppard give his side victory with a wide angled goal. For the fourth time in five league games the Quins did not concede a try and the work rate of the forwards and tenacious tackling contributes much to their position at the head of the division.
