Quins v Kenfig Hill

Aberavon Quins 36 Kenfig Hill 10.Kenfig Hill were removed from  second place in the league by an on form Quins side that adapted to the muddy conditions superbly. Both sides started brightly and produced some good handling moves. The Mules held the upper hand in the opening fifteen minutes but the stronger home eight took the sting out of the opposition. The Quins front row of Morley, Morgan & Helson dominated the set scrums and Karl Davies and Bowen were well on top in the close quarter stuff.  A line-out take by Beynon resulted in Dan Morgan being driven over for a try. Ryan Pugh converted from a wide angle. Beynon was in great form and played a great part in his teams success dominating line-out and enjoying the freedom of playing on the flank. It was not all about forwards as Lewis Cronin and Ryan Pugh combined in the centre to almost produce a score after a seventy metre movement. Pugh increased the lead with a penalty goal. The Mules swept to the attack as their backs had a rare supply of good ball but a mighty tackle by Cronin and a slipped pass from MacLachlan put Pugh away on a sixty metre run and beat off two would-be tacklers to score under the crossbar leaving himself the easy conversion. Kenfig Hill hit back and half backs Briggs and Hall engineered some smart back play but the Quins defence stood firm although conceding a penalty which Hall goaled.Cunnick and Dixon put some telling runs but it was all Quins in the second half.A succession of five metre scrums resulted in a yellow card and Pugh slipped through for his second try which he converted. The next Quins try came from a superb back move involving Rory Hinchcliffe and Callum Hanford and David Morley which was held five metres out but the superb Maclachlan finished with a great score. Pugh converted. At the final whistle the Quins eight drove a five metre scrum back for scrum half O’Callaghan to touchdown.
