Aberavon Quins 28 Baglan 0

Fond memories of the late Jeff Owen, who played for both clubs, were recalled by both camps but in the game no quarter was asked or given. A minutes applause was held before kick off in memory of the welsh schoolboy cap.

Baglan, handily placed in division 3 proved tough opposition for the league two leaders, making life very difficult in the opening quarter.  The Quins eight were marginally on top but both sides defended strongly. The Quins first score was a try after a scrum from skipper, No.8 Craig Cox which  Marc Sheppard converted. The Baglan effort waned and their problems escalated when the Quins introduced a strong string of replacements.

Youth product Jon Thomas showed great promise with an all action display and grabbed a try converted by Sheppard. Another development XV player, Cardiff University student Bill Rowlands put in an eye catching performance and his long touchline dash resulted in a try for Tom James. Sheppard added the conversion and also improved a remarkable try by replacement Jacob Flynn.

Another hallmark non stop action from Luke Davies earned him the award of Quins 'Man of Steel' by Baglan sponsor Viv Johnson of JES. Cory Bayley was named Baglan's 'Man of Steel' by Ken Morgan of Cynffig Motor Factors.

Quins captain Craig Cox received the Jeff Owen Shield from David Lockie and promised to put it up for grabs at Baglan next year.
