Deserved bonus point win

Waunarlwydd 21 Aberavon Quins 27.
The Quins thoroughly deserved the bonus point win at Roseland Road but Waun fought hard every step of the way. The Quins started brightly with the powerful front row of Burgess, Helson and skipper Dan Morgan dominating the scrums. Locks Bowen and Beynon also did their work in the lineout and also contributed much in attack and defence. Fly half Cooksley had trouble kicking out of hand early on but soon settled in and showed great composure in controlling the back line.Full back Dai Morley created a scoring chance with a great break but Waun defenders snuffed out the threat. Poor kicking from the Quins let Waun mount several attacks and Lee Evans rewarded them with a penalty goal from half way. No 8 Oates and scrum half Rowlands combined well and Condon ran strongly to set up a penalty chance for the Quins and Morley obliged to level the scores. The Quins pack were dominating things and it was against the run of play when an attack foundered in the Waun 22 and the counter attack swept up field for Sion Evans to score Lee Evans converted. The score spurred on the home side and Evans added two more penalties, as the Quins effort appeared to wane. Staring the second half 16-3 down the Quins raised their game aided by the wind at their backs. Scrum half Bill Rowlands continues to impress and his sharp work around the scrums troubled the waun defence. Bowen drove forward several times and the front row continued to dominate the scrums The Quins were troubled by an injury to strong running centre Condon forcing flanker Jon Thomas to fill in on the wing which did not affect his approach with his usual energy and skill..Matthew Saker entered the fray and his input was huge. Beynon ensured a good supply of line out ball and was a tower of strength around the pitch, Strong mauling forced Waun into conceding a penalty try. Good line out work by Beynon got the Quins threequarters moving and a smart kick through by Broom set up another maul close to the home line and flanker Maclachlan crashed over to narrow the gap to one point. A victory looked on the cards for the Quins until a sweeping move from Waun gamed a position on the Quins line and Prosser crossed for a try. With time running out the Quins returned to the attack with Cooksley gaining acres of ground with classy kicks. Another clean catch by Beynon set up a good attack featuring Jake Price and finished by Maclachlan. Morley put his side one point up with the conversion before in the dying seconds Maclachlan completed his hat-trick with a characteristic burst gaining the bonus point win. The victory showed that with all their players available the Quins could trouble many opponents,
